bicycle logic vessels

Inspired by the Moche and long-departed cultures from other parts of the world, I have created my own series of vessels that tell visual stories. Made with glass enamel on copper, I imagine that they could also survive centuries, waiting to be discovered and interpreted by unknown artists far in the future.

The five objects I created for this project are variations on the geometric form of a vessel: a black hole without a rim, an egg form with multiple openings, one with a thin tubular opening, a torus, and one made of two separate pieces. Some had legs, some did not.
I drew inspiration from geometric brain-teasers and 19th century educational models, aiming for forms that offered glimpses of ideal solids, warped space, and living beings.
Vessel forms are found in all cultures all around the world, and my five sculptures, while coming from my own imagination, connect my work to all those cultural traditions.

A book describing the project in detail is available from the artist.
